Meet Joanna

Hi, I’m Joanna, chef, educator, mum of five, and the founder of WYSEBITES!

For me, food has always been about more than just cooking, it’s about bringing people together.

Over 20 years ago, I began my journey in Dublin, training as a chef at the Dublin College of Catering. That qualification became my ticket to explore the world. I travelled far and wide, working alongside some incredible chefs and gathering experiences along the way.

Alongside my culinary journey, I pursued a BSc in Food Technology, which deepened my understanding of the science behind food, nutrition, and production. I also completed postgraduate studies in Business Communication, further enhancing my ability to connect, educate, and share my passion for food with others.

These days, you’ll find me settled in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, where I live with my husband Mark and our five wonderful (and always hungry) boys.

Why I Started WYSEBITES

Two people cooking, one wearing an orange shirt and the other in a purple apron, chopping vegetables on a blue cutting board in a kitchen. (this is Joanna during her workshops)

WYSEBITES (short for "What You Should Eat - Bites") was founded in 2019 with a simple mission: to make mealtimes easier, healthier, and more enjoyable for families, especially those with neurodivergent children and individuals with additional needs.

While studying, I researched the connection between food, health, and the barriers families face, from busy schedules and tight budgets to food sensitivities, picky eating, and reliance on ultra-processed foods. I realised I could help. I wanted to share my knowledge and create a space where food becomes a way to nourish both body and mind, bringing families together in a meaningful way

WYSEBITES grew from this belief that cooking should be fun, inclusive, and a way to bring people together.

With the support of my sister, Shauna, who designed the branding, we launched into schools, community groups, and kitchens across the North and South of Ireland, creating welcoming spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

The Vision

At WYSEBITES, we believe that cooking has the power to improve health, build confidence, and bring families together.

Our vision is to empower children, parents, and communities to rediscover the joy of preparing simple, wholesome meals, stress and pressure free.

WYSEBITES has grown into a vibrant community, delivering workshops and programmes across the North and South of Ireland. We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to inclusivity, winning an FSB Award for Diversity and Inclusion.

As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to create welcoming spaces where everyone, regardless of ability, background, or experience can find joy and confidence in the kitchen.
